The introduction "introduces" an issue to the reader.
It describes how your investigation will help the understanding or solving of this issue.
It needs to:
state the issue (problem) being investigated.
identify the population that this issue affects.
state how a variable (or relationship) in the given data is going to inform the reader about the issue above.
state the relationship being investigated in the given data. (i.e what 2 variables are going to be used)
state the specific prediction that is going to be made.
It needs to contain a purpose statement.
For a better introduction:
The choice of the investigation question needs to be justified. i.e who would be interested in your findings? (Research is required here).
The link between the identified issue and the variables investigated is clearly mapped out and supported with evidence:
Suggest a hypothesis for your investigation (justify this with some research).
