2021 Season Recap

Re-measure needed!  Mike Clark and Ryan Daly's bucks will need to be re-measured after the drying period.   They are less than a 1/2" apart according to my original measurement of each buck.  We will all meet to re-measure later in January and I will post the results here. 

 Tuesday December 21st, Joe  Shiner and Mike Leach doubled up on Coyotes in Calendonia, NY

Friday 12/31/21  Joe  Shiner shot a nice doe in Calendonia, NY

Joe was hunting "the farm" with Mike Leach.   Joe saw a nice doe with a white ass.  Joe saw the same doe earlier in crossbow season. Joe took the shot and got her.    The doe has an exceptional about of white on her ass and tail, cool deer. 

Friday 12/17/21  Me Dave D'Ettorre and Joe  Shiner both shot does in Cuba, NY 

I saw a group feeding up the hill towards my stand and I picked out a big one and dropped it.  Joe was with our buddy Mike leach and they were going up the hill on the four wheeler when the saw a group of does.  They got off the machine, got loaded and Joe got a shot off and got one.  Nice work and a good time up at camp.  

Saturday 12/4/21  Dave DeGrande killed a buck at Al Caruso's place.  

Dave was sitting in Al's new box blind on his food plot with his son Jay.  It was about 9:30am when the deer came out. Dave shot and the buck dropped where it stood.  Jay was psyched to see it drop where it stood.  Dave has worked very hard this season and made a great a great memory with his son.

Saturday 11/27/21  Mark Shiner got a buck and Joe Shiner got a doe at our place in Cuba, NY.

I went down to camp to join the guys for the weekend.  Mark shot his in the morning and Joe shot his in the evening.  Good time at camp as usual.  Nice work guys. 

Friday 11/26/21  Isaac Stroup shot a nice buck at his Grandfathers place in Clarendon, NY.  

This buck was heading to the food plot and Isaac got a shot off. The buck looked like it was hit and took off.  Isaac called his dad Dave to help him look for the deer and they found very little blood.  They kept looking and Isaac saw the buck laying dead.  Nice work Isaac and Dave!

Thanksgiving, Thursday 11/25/21  Me Dave D. took a nice big doe in Chili, NY on Dan D. Land.  

I there was 7 of us out there, me, Dan, David, Mike, Joe Doug and Taber.  I was sitting in the shushin stand (shitty cushion) on the hidden food plot behind Dans' pond.  Shay was in the house also "hunting" she was watching behind the pond for me. I saw 2 deer about 7:10am they went up the far 4 wheeler trail towards the house.  I hit the bleat can once and I didn't see them for about 5 minutes.  Then the big one came back in the field then I saw the small one.  I put the crosshairs on the big one and did a soft mouth bleat and she stopped. I fired and saw hair fly.  She went about 30 yards and her tail started to wag side to side.  I knew I hit her good.  The fawn went over by her for about 15 minutes.  It was a nice day so I sat in the stand until 10am then recovered her.  As Mika and I were getting her out Taber shot twice and got a doe. Nice Thanksgiving morning!!

Opening Day Saturday 11/20/21  Jamie Scherer killed a buck in Cowlesville, NY.  Nice work Jamie.

Opening Day Saturday 11/20/21  Jeff Ames was hunting with his son Gavin and they had their first successful father and son hunt!  Here is the story in Jeff's words.

Gavin and I sat in the SW shooting house tonight and saw deer within minutes of getting in. We watched 3 little year old bucks come out and feed and spare. At about 5 a mature doe finally came out alone and one of the little bucks went and nudged her through the field our way for a nice 100yd shot. I 12 ringed her with a heart shot and Gavin was able to watch her run and go down right in the field. Luckily the shot was out the opposite window of the rest of the deer and they went right back to feeding like nothing happened. No tracking required and we pulled the truck right up to her. He got to watch the field dressing part and head to beckers where there were 50+ deer from opening day. 1st successful father/son hunt with many more to follow.

Opening Day Saturday 11/20/21  Me, Dave D'Ettorre killed an 8 pointer on DanD land in chili, NY.  I was hunting with my brother Dan, my son David, my cousin Joe Shiner and my buddy Keith.   I saw a lot of deer and a coyote. Thus buck cam running in quick and I stopped him with a mouth bleat and let him have it.  He dropped where he stood.  Fun hunt with friends and family.

Opening Day Saturday 11/20/21  Al Caruso killed a buck on his land in Holley, NY.  11/20 is Al's birthday as well. Al put in a food plot and built a shooting house and got his BIRTHDAY BUCK! Nice work Al!

Opening Day Saturday 11/20/21  Mike Leach killed a buck in Caledonia, NY

Friday 11/19/21  Mark Shiner killed a nice 11 pointer on the last day of archery season in Lancaster NY.  He awas hunting with BJ.  Mark saw the buck but it dint offen him a good shot.  About 30 minutes later the buck came back out and offered him a 53 yard shot.  Mark took the shot, the buck went into the thick stuff then came back out and wobbled and fell down.  Good way to fill your archery tag on the last day.  Nice work Mark!

Wednesday 11/10/21  Mike Clark Shot an awesome buck in Chili, NY Mike was hunting my brother's place DanD Land with a few of us and her's Mik's story,   

He was tending a doe first thing in the morning, threw every call at him but he wouldn’t break from her. A couple hours after them disappearing, he came back to the bedroom much to my surprise. I had JUST enough time to grab the bow without him busting me as he was beelining it for my tree. At 15 yards he angled broadside all on his own. All I needed was a bleat to stop him and the rest is history. He didn’t even know he was hit, bounce of 10-15 yards and stood there. I thought maybe I’d missed, until he got a case of the wobbles and fell out 15 yards from the stand. Just like you draw it up. Simply amazing 

This Buck measures 134.88"

Saturday 11/7/21  Joe Innes shot an awesome buck in Ogden, NY Joe got in around 11am and saw this buck tending a doe about 45 yards away in the thick stuff.  3 hours later the buck came back and gave Joe a shot.   Joe hit him good and the buck went on a death run for about 200 yards into a swampy area This Buck measures 134.62"

Friday 11/4/21  Ryan Daly shot a great buck in Sweden, NY Ryan was hunting alone on a field edge.  He didn't see anything all afternoon until he saw this buck.  It came along the field edge with his nose to the ground.  He walked under Ryan's stand and got past him.  Ryan came to full draw and gave a little mouth bleat and the buck stopped and turned broadside.   Ryan let the arrow fly and hit the buck a little low, below the heart.  The buck took off. The shot did major damage and Ryan had a great blood trail.  He had his friend Luke join him a couple of hours later, they followed the blood trail for 300-400 yards and bumped the buck.  They backed out and Ryan returned with Cole Penders around 9:30pm.  The buck only went another 60 yards and died.  The drag out took over 2 hours and kicked their asses.  They final hung the buck up at 1AM.  Nice work Ryan and Cole!! This Buck measures 130.01"

Tuesday 11/2/21  Keith Schnetzer shot a cool buck in Maraland, (not eligible for our contest)  Keith was invited to hunt land with his neighbor, the land is loaded with deer.  It was raining and they decided to go out in the rain, good thing they did. Keith took this cool buck with his crossbow. Nice shooting Keith.

Sunday 10/24/21  Joe Dipaola killed a buck in Kendall, NY. Soe saw this buck chasing a doe and he grunted at him and the buck turned and came at Joe on a string.  Nice work Joe. This buck measures 119.8"

Friday 10/22/21 Joe Shiner killed a buck and a doe in Lancaster, NY.

Joe want to Lancaster with his good buddy BJ.  Joe is hunting this year with his new Matthews V3. The doe came in first and he shot her and watched her and knew she was hurting.  He decided he better knock another arrow arrow.  Within a few minutes the buck came in and he decided it was a shooter.  He shot him in the same spot that the doe was standing when he shot her.  Joe and BJ recovered both deer and got loaded up.  This buck has a drop tine and a ton of character. Joe got back to his house late and Keith Danny and myself met him there to check them out, measure, and help hang them up.  Nice work with the new bow Joe.  The investment and practice has paid off already.  Joe's daughter Collette got to check it out with daddy too.   This buck measures 127.75" 

9/20/21 Mike Leach Killed a big buck in Kansas with Red Dog Outfitters. (Not eligible for the contest)

Mike drew an online tag this year.  This buck came in about 7am with two other smaller bucks and a doe. The wind was gusting up to 30 mph and the temp was about 75 degrees.  this one was one of the shooters they had on camera.  The buck gross measures about 175" and has velvet hanging from its rack.  Congrats Mike, Awesome trophy for sure!

9/19/21 Ryan Daly killed an Elk, self guided on public land in Colorado

Ryan and his dad Bill were on an elk hunt in Colorado. They started their hike in at about 4:30am. They had a 3 mile hike in with 1/2 vertical climb. They were at about 10,000ft . They didn’t see or her anything in the morning. They setup in an aspen grove for the evening hunt, winds died down and temp was dropping quick. She came in to their calls , and Ryan shot her at 30 yds, slightly quartering away. Luckily she ran 1/4 mile down hill.  They waited 30 minutes and went to check for sign.  They found Ryan's arrow covered in blood and a good blood trail, so they started tracking. Ryan lead the way and we found her in piled up in some pine trees.

They quartered her up and packed out the rear quarters and back straps.  Got back to truck at 1030pm. They hung the rest in a tree and went back in the morning.

Congrats on your first Elk Ryan! Awesome archery kill and awesome experience with your Dad!
