Simmons Study Abroad Pathways
Simmons offers two pathways to study abroad, your access to Simmons Financial Aid and how you will pay for study abroad program are determined by your study abroad pathway.
Simmons Funded Pathway
To provide greater access to study abroad, Simmons has designed a Simmons-Funded Pathway to semester and short-term study abroad.
Approved Programs: Options are limited to a curated list of Simmons-approved programs designed to align with academic majors and career communities.
Semester Programs: Simmons bills you for standard tuition (and housing, for study abroad programs that can bill Simmons for housing). Simmons pays these fees directly to your program, allowing your Simmons institutional financial aid to apply directly to your Simmons student account.
If your total financial aid exceeds your Simmons' charges for the semester, you will have a credit balance on your account and should request a refund of this credit, to use for your study abroad expenses. You must submit your Enrollment Certification form to SFS once you arrive abroad in order for them to confirm your enrollment and disburse your aid. Also, be sure to sign up for direct deposit so that you can easily receive/access any refund(s) while abroad.
Short-Term Programs (J-Term & Summer):
Works like a scholarship: You pay a standard Study Abroad Fee to Simmons, and Simmons pays your full program tuition and housing directly to the program.
January Term: Fully covered (tuition and housing).
Summer Sessions: Simmons pays tuition and housing for one summer session (regardless of session length). If you choose to enroll in additional summer sessions, those will be self-pay.
Selection & Capacity: Participation is by early application only, highly competitive, and capped annually based on available institutional funding. Applications undergo a holistic review focused on academic rationale and financial need.
Application Deadline: February 1 annually for the entire following academic year (Fall Semester, January Term, Spring Semester and Summer).
*2026-2027 Costs*
Tuition per Semester
Non-Nursing: $24,154
Nursing: $26,465
Housing per Semester
Housing: $6,336
In some cases housing must be paid for on-site &, in these cases Simmons will not bill students for housing, students will instead pay for housing upon arrival abroad.
Study Abroad Fee
Fall/Spring: $750 Deposit* (due prior to departure) + $700 (included on your Simmons bill) = $1450
Self-Funded Pathway- This pathway is designed to give students more choice and more flexibility in your application. Spaces are not limited.
Approved Providers: Choose from a broad range of programs offered by Simmons network of recommended study abroad providers, including USAC, IES Abroad, API, WorldStrides, and SIT Study Abroad.
Semester & Short-Term Programs: You enroll directly through your chosen provider and pay all program costs (tuition, housing, and fees) directly to that organization.
Financial Details: Simmons institutional financial aid does not apply, and you will not be billed by Simmons for tuition or housing. However, you remain eligible for federal and non-Simmons financial aid, and CGE will assist you in identifying external study abroad scholarships.
Selection & Capacity: Offers open capacity and flexibility across all terms—there is no annual funding cap or competitive institutional selection process required.
Application Deadlines:
October 1 for Spring and January programs
March 1 for Fall and Summer programs
