The primary goals of Unit 4 are to (1) finalize orthography decisions and (2) produce materials that will allow the language community to immediately benefit from the new writing system.
The type and quantity of materials produced will vary from workshop to workshop. For example, a team that has been able to work on the lexicon throughout Units 1-3 may be able to finalize it and print it in time for the closing ceremony. Other teams may need to postpone completing the lexicon until after the workshop. Moreover, the types of teaching aids and cultural literature produced should prioritize the needs and interests of the community.
"The result of the 11-day workshop was that the workshop participants not only created an alphabet and writing rules but also became more confident and competent in writing their language. They also developed a more conscious understanding of how Maꞌdi Urule works and how to teach the new orthography to others."
- Maria Stølen, Facilitator (Uganda)
