Connect MicroPi to video display by HDMI cable.
Most modern TVs have a USB port which can power the MicroPi. This is convenient, but it is not required to power the device from the same TV used for display.
Copy videos for distribution to the MicroPi's download directories via SFTP or by performing autoload as shown in the "Add Content" portion of this website.
Using SFTP, copy promo videos to:
/home/pi/Kiosk/PromoVideos
From a menu entry on the Status & Control Page, click "Kiosk Control."
Click "Make PromoList."
This leads to a sub page where the Promo video list can be ordered as desired. Drag the filenames to the desired order and click "Finish".
See videos contained in the PromoVideos folder appear under "Current Promolist" in the order specified in the Promo sub page.
Disable Kiosk mode and wait for it to stop displaying before building a new playlist.
Click "Make Playlist."
Filter video list by entering a search term (if desired).
Select desired overlay by clicking a radio button.
Text - Setup text string to display, position and color
Icon - Select desired icon, set position.
QR Code - Select screen position and size
Click "Build Playlist."
Display should begin within one minute of playlist completion.
If a playlist is running when device is shutdown, it should resume on reboot.
Simple instructional/promotional videos including text and graphics can be created by creating a slide presentation with a presentation program like PowerPoint or Google Slides. .
If the presentation includes multiple slides, insert auto changing transitions between them.
"Present" the slideshow.
Using a screen recorder program, create the video in "MP4" format. If there is no motion in the video, reduce the recorded frame rate to save space and bandwidth.
Copy the resulting video to the following MicroPi folder:
/home/pi/Kiosk/PromoVideos
Note: The QR codes shown at left were generated automatically from the current WiFi SSID and URL for the device. They are available on the MicroPi's "About" page. These can be copied and inserted into instructional videos to help users connect to the device.
Be sure to make instructional videos sufficiently long to allow potential users to perform the instructions provided.
Other videos could be created to highlight other types of media available on the device such as smartphone apps, text, and audio.
