This page provides status, controls and customization tools. Note that there exists a menu across the top of the page leading to other pages which administer other parts of the system.
Net - Change network parameters and connect MicroPi to internet.
Autoload - Select and load content from Scripture Earth and 5Fish.
Kiosk Mode - Set up play lists, enable/disable and control video display.
Change Password - Permits changing the password fo the device.
Statistics - examine connection and download statistics.
On mobile device browsers, the menu changes to a "hamburger" style menu appearing on the upper left of the page.
The operating system running on the MicroPi includes a system clock which runs whenever the system is up. The current system time is shown on the Control Page. However due to the lack of a battery, there is no means to keep a clock running after shutdown. Upon reboot, the clock resumes at the time and date of its previous shutdown. Thus the time and date may be set by the operator from the control page to allow more accurate logging of users and contact forms. This is optional and affects only the timestamp of the contact records, and the visitor and download statistics. These will show the system clock time on their records. All other functions will operate correctly without setting the clock.
Modern web browsers include tools to help set the time and date. Clicking on the arrows in the date window will produce a calendar on which the desired date can be selected. When the fields are correct, click the “Set” button. Due to the nature of the software, it will take at least a minute to change the system time.
For convenience, time and date fields are preset to the time provided by the web browser used to access the page. Simply clicking the "Set" button will set the MicroPi's clock to the web browser's time and Time Zone. However entered text will override the preset, so the clock can be set to any arbitrary date.
If the device is connected to the internet and the captive portal is off, (see Network Admin) the MicroPi's clock will be updated automatically.
To shutdown the device, DO NOT simply pull the plug. There is a non-zero chance that just cutting off power will corrupt the SD card. The filesystem on the card is checked and repaired on each boot, but some errors cannot be fixed and can result in permanent corruption, breaking the function of the unit and requiring the card to be reprogrammed.
To avoid this, go to the control page and click on “Shutdown”. Watch until the LED flashes ten times in sequence and then goes out permanently before disconnecting the power.
Sometimes the permissions of the website files become modified causing the site to display incorrectly. This tool will correct file permission problems.
The system collects usage statistics. This tool will allow the visitor count and download statistics database to be viewed (see below). The Display button displays a page where both download counts and visitor counts can be viewed. "Download" Downloads a ZIP file of both visitor and download counts Reset deletes all statistics and resets them to zero.
Deletes all content from device. Network parameters are not changed.
The MicroPi collects visitor and download statistics. These can be viewed by clicking on "Display". It counts files downloaded, and number of visitors per day.
Be sure to set the Clock/Calendar if it is desired to accurately count visitors per calendar day.
This tool shows the number of contact logs in the database and allows the database to be downloaded in .CSV format. This text based format can be opened with any text editor or spreadsheet program for further processing.
The button labeled "Reset" resets the database, deleting all records.
The device includes three websites, one in English, one in French and the third in Spanish.
Only one language is available at a time. Click on the language of choice. This does not require a reboot, but the web browser cache may hold pages from the previous language. Restart the web browser after changing the language for best results. The value of an environment variable which corresponds the the current language setting is shown. This will not change until the device is rebooted.
The control page remains in English/Spanish and is never translated.
The SSID and hostname should also be changed to more appropriate strings when changing the language. (see network admin)
Multiple logos are available. Clicking on the corresponding button will change the logo displayed in all areas of the public website.
If a custom logo is desired, please contact the developer at micropi@sil.org.
