Run the unit

First Boot

  1. Insert the SD card in the Raspberry Pi.*

  2. Plug the Charge/Sync cable or power supply into the port.

  3. Connect the other side of the Charge/Sync cable to your computer, or a USB power supply.

  4. The green LED should flicker for 10-15 sec. and then come on steady. If it does not, try again to re-image the card.

*Warning - Be sure the unit is disconnected from power before inserting or removing the SD card.

Connect to WiFi

  • In a minute or so, the device should be emitting a WiFi signal. Connect your computer to the WiFi SSID “MicroPi”. No password will be needed. Scanning the QR code at left will automatically connect some phones to this signal.

    • In your web browser, navigate to : http://mpi.local/

    • You should see the MicroPi's home page.

Expand rootfs

The unzipped image is about 2GB so as not to be a burden to download. When copied block by block to the SD, the partition it creates does not fill the full size of the card. Very little content will fit in this reduced partition. A feature exists to expand the partition to fill the full size of the SD card. This needs to be done only once, each time the SD card is reprogrammed.

  1. Connect your device to the MicroPi's WiFi signal. Note: that modern Android devices may have to disable Mobile Data before they will connect.

  2. Navigate to http://mpi.local/controls/control.php - This is a protected page providing control over the entire device. You will have to enter credentials:

User: pi

Passwd: bbox100

  1. Look for the “Storage tool” (shown right)

  2. This shows the current size of the partition, the amount currently used, and the remaining space in the existing partition.

  3. Click on the “Expand Root” button to enlarge the partition. A reboot is required. The click will lead to a second page which will cause it. Be patient. A large SD card will take several minutes to expand.

  4. When the device reboots, reconnect to the control page using the same steps as above.

  5. Return to the Storage Tool and see that the partition now fills the full size of the SD card.
