We recommend using the 3CX progressive web app. This new technology offers an app-like experience without installing a full app. It enables the web client to remain active, so calls are never missed. You will need to use Microsoft Edge or Google Chrome to do this.
The Progressive Web App can be added as a shortcut on the desktop/taskbar, and configured to automatically run on system start. It allows you to create a custom view in which it will startup, for example at the side of your main workspace, keeping the user experience the same every day.
Google Chrome
Microsoft Edge
Installation is simple and can be done in either of 2 ways when logged into the Web Client:
Click on the Install button (circled red) located in the address bar and then confirm.
Click on the “More” icon in the top corner of the browser window and select “Install 3CX…”
On Windows, Mac and Linux, a desktop icon will be created which you can move anywhere you like. After installation, you can immediately specify to auto start the app and pin it to the task/start bar
To receive push notifications on Chrome, you must have at least one Chrome window open or the Chrome PWA app. If one or the other is not open, push notifications will not work.
To ensure you always get your call notifications, auto start the PWA app on sign-in. Here’s how:
Click on 3 vertical dots in PWA and select “App info”
Then click on "Settings" and enable the option to “Start App when you sign in”
Next time you sign into your Windows machine the 3CX PWA app will be automatically started.
Chrome options > System node > Enable the option “Continue running background apps when Google Chrome is closed”
Unfortunately, even though you have to enable the option "Continue running background app..." if you close all browser windows and the PWA app too, you will not receive any call notifications.
If you’re using Windows we recommend using Edge too. Push notifications in MS Edge work differently from Chrome. MS Edge is started on Windows sign-in and keeps running as a background process. This is the case even when you close all Edge / PWA windows if the option "Startup Boost", in Edge settings > System and Performance is enabled.
Edge is always running background processes. This explains why - even if you close all Edge browser windows or the Edge PWA window - you still receive push notifications via Edge. As a User, you can enable the option in PWA to “Start app when you sign in” by doing the following:
Once you click to install the PWA app in Edge and it launches you will see the following options:
To enable “Auto- Start on device login”. Next time you sign into your Windows machine the 3CX Edge PWA app will be automatically started.
To continue running background apps when the browser is closed - make sure this option is set to ON. "Edge options > System and Performance > Enable the option “Continue running background extensions and apps when Microsoft Edge is closed”.
