Assessments can provide valid and reliable information about teaching and learning, and strengthen student achievement and learning. Assessments allow for the proactive management of teaching and learning. Timely student performance data enables continuous improvement. Teachers analyze student data to improve weekly or even daily instruction. Principals review grade level or school data to deploy teachers, plan instructional strategies, or select specific intervention programs. Central office staff use school and district data to provide evidence-based professional development, intervene where necessary, tweak the curriculum, and invest district resources in areas of need.
