All students must receive CPR/First Aid/AED training to fulfill graduation requirements. Students with and IEP or 504 plan may be exempt from this requirement.
8VAC20-231-51 outlines the graduation requirements. It states that students shall be trained in emergency first aid, CPR, and the use of AED, including hands-on practice of the skills necessary to perform cardiopulmonary resuscitation. Students with an individualized education plan (IOEP) or 504 Plan that documents that they cannot successfully complete this training shall be granted a waiver from this graduation requirement.
8VAC20-131-420 outlines the waiver clause to this graduation requirement. The waiver is based on the competencies needed to perform these tasks.
