Prerequisite: English 6
Recommended Next Course: English 8
Students in English 7 develop communication, reading, writing, and research skills in increasingly complex contexts. They deliver multimodal presentations, interpret media information, and share responsibility for collaborative work. In reading, students study word origins, roots, and connotations, in addition to comparing fiction and nonfiction and analyzing a variety of genres. As writers, students plan, draft, revise, and edit writing with an emphasis on expository and persuasive writing. They write multiparagraph compositions to develop and modify a central idea, thesis statement, tone, and voice. Students also find, evaluate, and select appropriate resources for a research product. They evaluate the validity and authenticity of sources, quote and paraphrase, cite sources, and follow guidelines for gathering and using information.
