About TAP 


TAP is a student knowledge exchange programme that pairs undergraduate students studying subjects within the faculties of Arts & Humanities and Social Sciences with businesses, organisations and researchers for internships that have a placemaking or place focus. If you're new to the term 'placemaking', you might wish to start here


We are no longer accepting student applications for Transforming and Activating Places (TAP) 2023. The deadline for applying was midnight on Sunday 5th March 2023. 


All students must carefully read the Student Application Pack 2023 before applying. A plain text version is available on the same page.

Who can apply

Undergraduate students studying subjects within arts, humanities and social sciences can apply. TAP is a competitive programme with 70 places available per year, although you do not need to have any previous work experience to take part. We will prioritise applicants who don't already have an internship/placement as part of their degree course. You are eligible to apply for TAP if you meet one or more of the following widening participation criteria:

+ Your home address is in a neighbourhood with low rates of participation in Higher Education. You can use the POLAR4 tool to check your postcode: postcodes in POLAR4 quintiles 1 and 2 meet this criteria

+ You are the first in your family to go to University

+ Your parent(s) did go to university, but after they turned 21-years-old (they were/are classed as mature students)

+ You identify as belonging to a Black, Asian, or Minority Ethnic (BAME) community

+ You are a carer for someone

+ You have been in care at some point

+ You have a disability or specific learning difficulty

+ You are a mature student

+ You have received a UOS financial bursary
