Stefania is Senior Lecturer in Digital Sociology at the University of Sheffield and a research lead at Sheffield Cancer Research. Her research - funded by the British Academy (2012), the Wellcome Trust (2013; 2016), the ESRC (2018) and the Leverhulme Trust (2022) -centres on digital participatory cultures.  While investigating social media practices, she has developed a keen interest in  the role of digital media in self-care, patient advocacy, health public debate, and health activism. She has written extensively on social media discourses around rare and hereditary health conditions and is author of Digital Media and Participatory Cultures of Health and Illness (Routledge, 2022). Hannah is a Research Associate at the University of Sheffield. Hannah researches how people use and experience digital media in everyday life. She has expertise in the area of online interaction and identity and is interested in the relationship between technological affordances and users practices. Recently she has worked on Living With Data, a Nuffield Foundation project which explored how people experienced and felt about data use in their everyday lives. She is experienced in conducting qualitative research and enjoys applying innovative, digitally mediated, methods in her work. 

Hannah is Previvorship's Research Associate. 

Prof Julian Barwell

Julian is honorary chair in Cancer Studies, Consultant Clinical Geneticist and East Midlands Clinical Research Network lead for Genetics, Reproductive Health, Paediatrics and Non-malignant Haematology. He was the rare disease lead for the 100,000 Genome Project in Leicester and chairs the Public and Patient Involvement group for the East of England Genomics Medicine Centre. He launched the Cancer Genomics arm of the national project on the BBC Breakfast sofa for the Department of Health. Julian and his team have won three Caring at its Best Nominations and he was awarded an in 2015. He is the University of Leicester academic champion for genomic medicine and was voted twice onto the United Kingdom Cancer Genetics Group Steering Committee.

Yifeng Zhang

Yifeng is a Digital Media and Society graduate from the University of Sheffield. Through the Sheffield Undergraduate Research Experience, she joined the team during the first year of the project.

Yifeng is particularly interested in digital identities and social movements, and contributed to Previvorship by exploring the role of digital media in the forming of previvorship advocacies. Check out the Lynch Syndrome animation designed by Yifeng during her time with Previvorship.

Yu-Ning (Nock) is a doctoral candidate at the University of Sheffield. Her research focuses on the digital deliberative sphere, digital publics, and methodological innovation, especially in the context of digital research. Yu-Ning (Nock) studies the role of digital media in communicating environmental concerns and the impact of policy decisions in Digital Deliberative Forums.

Yu-Ning (Nock) contributed to Previvorship by analysing social media visual data and producing data visualisations.
