The University’s expectations regarding student attendance and engagement are included in the formal Regulations and the Terms and Conditions upon Acceptance of an Offer, that all students sign up to.
In addition, for visa-sponsored students our external obligations mean we need to comply with our UK Visa & Immigration (UKVI) requirements to ensure students are attending. If you are one of these students, it is vital that you are using the iSheffield app to record your attendance.
For all other students, we also monitor attendance data because there are clear benefits of regular attendance on your progression, wellbeing and academic success at the University. We want to be able identify and support students who may be struggling to fully engage with their programme, for whatever reason. You can read these policies and processes in more detail by visiting the attendance monitoring web page on the Student Hub.
Download the iSheffield app (if you haven't already) via Apple Store or Google Play
If you use a Huawei device or cannot download the iSheffield app, instead check that you can access the web browser version via a mobile device to check-in.
Log in with your University of Sheffield username and password.
When logging in for the first time, you need to accept the terms of use, and you'll receive an email from ExLibris (the app developer) asking you to verify your email address.
Ensure you can access the “Student Check-in” tile
The check-in tile only shows timetables for today and the past 4 weeks. So if you can't see your future classes yet, that's why. Just wait until closer to the date and it will pop up.
You should use the Check-in app only where your lecturer shares a 6-letter code. Use the department's alternative method, be that paper or QR code for any events where a 6-letter code isn't shared.
You can check in 10 minutes before the event and for the whole duration of the event.
Attend your timetabled event
Your teacher should share a one time code with you
Open your iSheffield app and make sure:
Your geolocation is switched on
Your geolocation is set to precise
Your phone is not on “low power” mode
Don’t worry if you don’t have a suitable mobile device as the iSheffield Check-in will also work on a web browser accessed via your mobile device. If needed, you could ask your lecturer to check you in.
Click on the correct event in the “Student Check-in” tile
Enter the one time 6 digit code and click submit
Your event should show a green tick
Should you prefer, you can switch off geolocation in between check-ins. For this function to work, it only needs to be on for the time required to check-in successfully.
