Weightings and determining Degree Classifications

For each module that you take, you will be assessed. At the end of the module you will be given a module grade out of 100 for your performance (this grade is derived from all of the assessments for the module e.g. the exam, the coursework or a combination).

These overall module grades are then used to calculate your Grade Point Average for each year (this is where your overall module grades are added together and divided by the number of modules you have taken).

To determine your degree classification, each year is weighted differently:

For BEng students, the Level 3 modules have double the weighting of the Level 2 modules i.e. 1:2

For MEng students, the Level 3 & 4 modules have double the weighting of the Level 2 modules i.e. 1:2:2

For students on the Language/Year abroad programmes, the Level 4 modules are double the weight of the Level 2 & 3 modules i.e. 1:1:2

For Year in Industry programmes:

MECU015 - the Level 3 modules have double the weighting of the Level 2 modules i.e. 1:2

MECU027 -  the Level 3 & 4 modules have double the weighting of the Level 2 modules i.e. 1:2:2

Please note that 1st year grades are not included in determining your degree classification. They do not count towards your degree.
