Light it up! (Brockwell Juniors)

Exploring light & shadows

By Wil

Our Makerspace introduction has been difficult due to the continued pressure of Covid 19. Having said that, we have managed to make good progress in the Light & Shadow project on the Make a Maker{School} website.

We have:

  1. Investigated shadows

  2. Studied LED and batteries

  3. Made simple circuits using the provided kit

  4. Designed posters incorporating an LED

  5. Designed the circuit

  6. Created the posters using art materials

  7. Built the LED circuit using aluminum foil used to conduct

  8. Investigated and built LEDs in a series circuit and in parallel

  9. Add more LED to poster either in series or parallel

Rather than make a light and shadow show we will use our knowledge of circuits to add more LEDs to the posters.

Next steps

After Easter, we will run a project of our own design. We are lucky to have different avenues available to us but I am unsure how to proceed.

Possible skill builders:

  • Microbit

  • Crumble (playground)

  • Scrappy circuits (building on the knowledge base from Light & Shadow)

  • Makedo (I have been 3D printing Makedo compatible hinges)

  • Makey Makey
