The Skills Development Officers of the Engineering PGR Committee are committed to helping PhD students build the essential skills needed for academic success and professional growth. Our events are designed to foster knowledge exchange and community, bringing together students from across the faculty in a supportive environment.

We aim to equip PhD students with both practical and transferable skills through a variety of sessions, including:

• Research methodology

• Data analysis & tools

• Academic writing

• Effective communication & presentation

These sessions not only provide opportunities to develop technical expertise but also offer a platform for students to practice presenting complex topics to a diverse audience. This helps students hone their ability to communicate research in a way that is accessible across different engineering disciplines.

We've been involved in organising the Engineering Researchers Symposium over the last few years, where PhD and postdoctoral researchers come together to showcase and celebrate the breadth of the amazing research we do. The symposium typically takes place in June, so keep an eye out for announcements regarding the next event!
