Moderation

In addition to being marked, assessments on all modules which count towards students' final degree classifications are moderated. At a minimum 80% of all assessments are moderated on each module.

Moderating involves reading at least 10% of the whole batch or a minimum of 10 scripts (whichever is greater); and all failing marks are moderated. Moderators are responsible for confirming the consistency of marking and feedback and for confirming that the first marker has applied the marking criteria appropriately and in line with School standards and practice.

The moderator may request to review all scripts if there are concerns about marking standards, and is required to write a brief report which will be made available to the assessment team and external examiners.
