SSiD: Student Services Information Desk

A 'one-stop-shop' information service for general student related issues. We aim to answer the majority of student related enquiries from a single location.  SSiD signposts you to all of the following services:

Mental Health and Wellbeing

Confidential service for students with ongoing or persistent difficulties: workshops, group sessions, self-help resources and individual counselling sessions

Help is available if you need support with your mental health at any point during your time at Sheffield.  

If you’re experiencing mild difficulties and challenges, the wellbeing service can provide preventative support to help you manage your wellbeing and succeed at University. This can be done through booking an appointment with an advisor and access to self-help materials.


The Sheffield Support Hub offers free mental health support in a welcoming, comfortable, non-judgmental, and non-clinical environment. Their experienced staff team is available to provide emotional, social and practical support if you are in crisis or feel you are heading toward a crisis situation.


Door 43 offers a number of services including: a drop in, one to one support, wellbeing cafes and social prescribing spaces and can support young people with lots of different things they may need advice on or are struggling with. 

Student Support Services

Support for students who have a disability, long term mental health or medical condition, or specific learning difficulty.

University Health Service

Full NHS GP service to all University of Sheffield students living in the city and their dependants. Additional services include asthma, diabetes and eating disorder clinics

Skills Development

301 supports your student journey by ensuring you have the skills to develop into a well-rounded graduate, prepared for whatever the future holds - be it further study or the start of your career. 

The English Language Teaching Centre (ELTC) offers a wide range of English language courses and services for University students and departments, as well as the public.

Personal Tutor System

When you arrive at the University of Sheffield you will be allocated a member of academic staff from your department who will be your key point of contact for academic and personal support. You will have regular, scheduled meetings with this member of staff, who will work with you to achieve the best you can during your time at this University.

Where necessary, your academic and personal support tutor will be able to direct you to more specialist support, either personal, academic or more general.

Your Personal Tutor:

Gateway to other services: can direct you towards the wide range of specialised help (e.g. careers advice, student counselling, and others) provided by the University and the Students’ Union. 

NB: In all but exceptional circumstances any information you give to your Personal Tutor will be treated as confidential, if requested. All personal information held by departments will be handled in accordance with the University's Data Protection Policy and Procedures.
