Student Consultation Timetable

Student consultations appointments

Following feedback from students, we will be retaining the system of bookable appointments via Google Calendar for all student consultations with staff members. Your module tutors and personal tutors will share their links with you, and a full list of all staff can be found at the bottom of this page. If you are unable to find a suitable appointment with a member of staff in a given week (either because you have a clash with the offered slots, or because there are no slots visible) please email them to request an alternative.

Last year, students reported valuing the flexibility of being able to meet with staff members online, although we also know that students value face to face consultations. We therefore want to offer students some choice about whether consultations take place online or face to face, but this presents logistical problems about making sure that both students and tutor are clear about where the meeting is happening. We have therefore decided that for now all consultations will take place online by default, and if you are happy with that, you should follow the meeting link supplied via Google Calendar.

You are, however, very welcome to request that the consultation take place face to face instead. To do this, first make a booking via Google Calendar, then send a separate email to the member of staff to request that the meeting takes place face to face. The member of staff will respond to confirm the switch if it is possible for them. Face to face consultation appointments will normally take place in the office of the member of staff. Note that while we will try to be available to meet with you in person if possible, we cannot guarantee that face to face meetings will be available in all cases, and until you receive confirmation that your meeting will take place face to face, you should assume that it is online. Bear in mind that members of staff are more likely to be able to grant your request if you get in touch in good time (e.g. a day or two, or more, before the meeting).

We will review these policies with students and staff at the end of the first semester to check that they are working as we hope, and make adjustments for semester two if necessary.
