Your assignment MUST be supported by referencing appropriate literature. Please ONLY use Harvard or Vancouver referencing. We recommend using Harvard.
Ensure your work is referenced correctly using both in-text citation and an end reference list. Ensure you check both thoroughly before submitting.
To find out how to reference correctly using one of these methods, please use the university resources below:
The University of Sheffield Library tutorial on Harvard referencing

For an in-text citation of a colleague's contribution to a discussion, you can cite your reference as follows:
Khan (2019) discusses the use of constructivism in small group settings and suggests that it is important to establish 'ground rules' at the outset.
In the bibliography/reference list:
Username or Surname of creator, initial(s)., Year. Title of message. In: Title of host message system (required if applicable) [medium designation]. Date message was posted [Date message viewed]. Available from: URL Path: (if needed).
Khan, S, 2019. Discussion of peer-teaching session. In: Blackboard Forums [online]. 7 November [Viewed 8 November 2019]. Available from: University of Sheffield Course: MDE61001 Effective Learning and Teaching (AUTUMN 2019~20)
The word count of an assessment is the number of words you use to complete that assessment and this is detailed on the assessment page within each module space.
For each module, you are allowed to submit an assignment either 10% above or below the total word count. The word count does not include your title, contents page, references, tables and appendices.
Penalties: Your word count will be checked by Turnitin when you submit. If your assignment falls outside of the 10% allowance your work will not be marked, it will be referred and you will be asked to resubmit.
Work cannot be submitted late. If you do not submit by the required deadline without an authorised extension in place, you will automatically receive a Refer on the grounds of non-submission. If you require an extension please complete the Extension Request Form.
Extensions must be requested at least 48 hours prior to submission (only exceptional circumstances, such as emergencies will overrule this, and evidence of the emergency will be requested).
Requesting an extension does not guarantee that one will be granted.
If an extension is granted this will be for 7 working days in the first instance.
longer extensions can be given after discussion and extenuating circumstances have been determined.
Unacceptable reasons for requesting an extension include poor time management, clashes with planned professional examinations, holiday plans, shift working and not seeking appropriate clarification about the assignment in time.
Work not submitted by the approved extension deadline will automatically receive a Refer on the grounds of non-submission.
It is the responsibility of students to notify the Programme Administrator at the earliest opportunity if there are any extenuating circumstances that might have a bearing on their attendance or performance in assessments. Students should complete the Extenuating Circumstances Form and provide evidence with the form .
Please refer to the central Extenuating Circumstances pages for further guidance.
