As a course, we implement the University’s academic tutoring (AT) scheme to support you in your overall academic progression and to signpost relevant sources of support throughout the university, where required. Each student on the course will be allocated an AT and this will be communicated to you on email at the start of your studies.
Your AT will email you to arrange 2 meetings with you per academic year, one in the first semester and one in the second. It is important that you respond to their emails.
Your academic tutor is there to discuss your academic progress and career development through personalised conversations. This might include discussing topics such as:
Assignments, referencing and understanding feedback
Your academic progression, employability, developing your skills and development opportunities available to you
Time management and independent study
Reflection on your overall academic experience
They can also signpost you to specialist University support services for issues related to your mental health and wellbeing, visas and immigration, disability support, careers and employability, and academic skills support.
You can also ask your academic tutor to be your named contact for academic references.
If you experience issues or have questions related to a specific module you’re studying, please contact your module tutor, not your academic tutor. Your module tutors can support with:
Teaching content
Module assessment schedules and criteria
Specific module reading and resources
If you need support that isn’t related to your academic progress or development (e.g. mental health and wellbeing, visas and immigration, disability, etc.), please contact the relevant university support service. This handbook has additional links to these services.
