World Educational Robotics (WER) is part of the World Educational Robot Contest, founded and organized by World Educational Robotics Society (WERS), catering for primary, secondary and college students. WERS and WER were co-founded by Prof. Jake Mendelssohn and Dr. Yun Weimin in 2012. In 2017, WER was introduced to the U.K. by Dr Melissa Butt (Chair of WERS and WER in the UK).
Annually, more than 1,000,000 contestants from 50 countries and regions participate in WER contests around the world.

Sheffield Girls’, in partnership with WER UK based in the Discovery Stem centre (discoverystem.org.uk), is the first UK WER (World Educational Robotics) Primary Hub following its work to incorporate robotics and robotic programming into their bespoke Fusion Curriculum and also motivate other pupils from across the city to enjoy the topic.
We provide specific WER lesson plans and resources as well as a range of help and advice from linking it into your school curriculum, day to day delivery of the WER curriculum, securing funding to issues with the robots themselves.
We hold hub meetings several times a year to share and discuss WER with other teachers throughout the city.
Thanks to HSBC UK funding, we are able to loan schools 10 robots for a ten-week block or allow them to use the robots at bespoke enrichment days.
We are able to provide help and advice about running a WER club.
Pupils from local schools are able to take part in the Sheffield UK WER regional final (hosted at Sheffield Girls' School). This may then provide the opportunity to enter the U.K. event and European Open leading onto the World Finals.
