Earth's Moon
Why Does the Moon Turn Red?
Find out why a totally eclipsed Moon turns a shade of red.
Traditional Full Moon Names
Full Moons had given names in many ancient cultures. The names we use today often reflect the changing seasons and nature, like Harvest Moon, Strawberry Moon, or Snow Moon.
The Lunar Month
A lunar month is the time it takes the Moon to pass through all of the Moon phases, usually measured from a New Moon the next New Moon.
New Moon – the Invisible Phase
The New Moon is when the Sun and Moon are aligned, with the Sun and Earth on opposite sides of the Moon. The New Moon also has important cultural and religious significance worldwide.
Full Moon – the Moonlight Phase
The Full Moon is the most striking Moon phase when the entire face of the Moon is lit up. Did you know it only lasts a moment?
Look Up for a Blue Moon!
On August 30/31, 2023, a Super Blue Moon takes place. It is the second Full Moon in a month with two Full Moons.
The Far Side of the Moon
The notion that there is a permanently dark side of the Moon is wrong. What is true, is that there is a far side of the Moon, a side we never see from Earth
Super Full Stawberry Moon in the May Sky
The Full Moon on June 14, 2022, is a Super Moon. Supermoon, Full Moon—what's the difference?
