When looking for a great book to read, you first stop should probably be the Newberry Award winner list. The Newbery Medal was named for eighteenth-century British bookseller John Newbery. It is awarded annually by the Association for Library Service to Children, a division of the American Library Association, to the author of the most distinguished contribution to American literature for children.
Below is a link to a library in New Mexico, nut it has a nice comprehensive list of the Newberry winners with pictures of the book covers and short descriptions.
