My name is Donna McVey and I am the Middle School Social Studies teacher.
Here's a little more about me:
I grew up in Midlothian, IL, a South Suburb of Chicago. I went to Illinois College in Jacksonville, IL graduating in 2003 with a BA in History and earning a Secondary Education Teaching Certificate for the State of Illinois. At college, I met my future husband, Ian, who is from Alton, IL. I returned home and taught at Bloom High School in Chicago Heights, IL for 10 years, during which time I also earned a M.Ed in Curriculum and Instruction from NOVA Southeastern University, graduating in 2009. Ian and I married in 2011. I moved to St. Louis at the close of the 2013-2014 school year. After transferring my teaching credentials to Missouri, holding a lifetime certificate for Middle and High School (6-12), I was a substitute teacher for two years before St. Gerard Majella found me in 2016. Our oldest son William was born early in 2016 and was joined by Charlie in the fall of 2019 then Edward in early 2025. William and Charlie attend South City Catholic Academy. At our home in the Bevo Mill neighborhood of St. Louis, I keep both a vegetable and butterfly garden.
