Hi Kids! Please watch this video first! Before trying to play along with the accompaniments -- fast and slow accompaniments are at the end of the video-- work on the exercises below.
G G A B G B A G = thumb + 1, 2, and 3
G G A B G G A = thumb + 1 and 2
G G A B C B A G B = thumb + 1
B B A A G G C = thumb + 2 (no first finger)
Remember! Left hand is ALWAYS on top!
Here are some exercises for the new note, C, that we learned today.
Just in case you have forgotten.
G = Thumb + 1, 2, and 3
A = Thumb plus 1 and 2
B = Thumb + 1,
C is Thumb + SECOND finger. There is no first finger for C.
If you try to play a C and accidentally leave your first finger down, you are actually playing an A.
B C B C B C B You are switching from first to second finger
B C B C B C B
A C A C A C A You are just lifting and replacing first finger
A C A C A C A
Now this one is the hardest. To go from G to C you must lift your first AND third fingers at the same time, replacing them when you return to G.
G C G C G C G
G C G C G C G
Practice these until they become easy.
Or until they become easier, anyway.
Les Folies d'Espagne is a piece that was written by the French composer Marin Marais in 1701. It is a type of piece called a Theme and Variations.
In a Theme and Variations, the composer writes a tune (the theme) and then writes a series of short pieces called variations (or changes) based on the theme.
The theme is the first part you hear. Listen for similarities between it and the variations that follow.
