This is a performance the The Arrival of the Queen of Sheba from the oratorio Solomon by Georg Friedrich Handel. An oratorio is an opera which is performed unstaged; that is, it is performed like a normal concert, there are no stage sets or costumes or anything of that nature.
It was originally written for orchestra featuring two baroque oboes in the 1740s during a time we now call the Baroque Era.
Of course, baroque oboes were just called oboes back then.
If you look closely at the two baroque oboes, they kind of look like recorders, don't they? In fact, the fingerings for recorders and oboes are very similar.
This is a recording of The Arrival of the Queen of Sheba arranged for orchestra and two recorders.
Which of the two recordings do you prefer?
