Hi Kids! Here are accompaniments for Little Bird. Listen to this first so you've got a good concept of how the song goes.
Once you've learned the song, come back and play along!
Hi kids! Today we are going to learning a NEW note. (Exciting, right?)
If you look at the fingering chart above, you can see the notes, G A B C D on the bottom row.
Today we're going to be working on a piece that uses a D. It almost looks like it's fingered the same as a C, but you'll notice that the circle that indicates the thumb is not filled in.
Yes, we are going to be playing without the thumb. This is a bit tricky, since when we are playing a D, we can't use the thumb to hold the recorder up. You'll have three points of contact with the recorder: your right thumb (hold it behind the 4th and 5th holes), your mouth (obviously!) and the second finger of your left hand. It may seem totally odd at first, but don't worry. You'll get it!
Some exercises for playing Little Bird.
A C A C A C A A C A C A C A A is Thumb plus 1 and 2. To get to C, just lift 1.
C D C D C D C C D C D C D C C is Thumb plus 2. To get to D, just lift your thumb.

I was looking for a way to teach you all how to read notes, and I found this amazingly catchy song.
It was only later on that I realized that the actual tune was written by Taylor Swift.
