Efrain Orozco-Flores

Academic & AVID Counselor

Hello, I am Efrain Orozco-Flores. I go by Mr. Orozco. Originally born and raised in South Central Los Angeles in the community of Watts. Growing up in a low-income community and a working class family I am familiar with the challenges that low income and working class families face. My parents immigrated from Mexico to provide my siblings and I with greater opportunities. The opportunities that my parents faced in this county were restricted by their limited education and thus they always emphasized the value of education. This is why I have worked diligently to graduate from college and become a counselor. As a counselor I believe I can become a resource to help guide students to pursue higher education and reach their respective goals. As a first generation college graduate, I am committed to working with diverse student populations and strongly believe in the Washington counseling mission. I first moved to Northern California when I attend the University of California Santa Cruz. I received a Psychology BA with a minor in Education from UC Santa Cruz. After my 4 years at UC Santa Cruz I lived in Santa Cruz for one more year working with Barrios Unidos a gang prevention non-profit organization. I have also received a Masters of Science in K-12 School Counseling from California State University, Long Beach. While at CSU Long Beach I worked as a college advisor with the CAL-SOAP program at Cabrillo High School in Long Beach Unified School District. Through my position of Academic Counselor, I hope to work with students to serve as an added school resource, maximize students’ potential and facilitate increased opportunities in higher education for all students.
