Counselors meet individually with seniors in the fall and with juniors in the spring. At these meetings counselors review with students their graduation & A-G status, and post-secondary plans. Counselors and College and Career Advisors work with students to pursue their post-secondary goals.

Sequoia High School Counselor School Report (SR) and Letter of Recommendation (LOR) Requests for the class of 2026
Please note that there is a required SR/LOR process for Sequoia High School seniors. They must complete the process by specific deadlines (see below), even if they are being supported by a private college advisor or college readiness program.
Deadline for seniors to turn in SR/LOR form for Early Admissions: 9/19
For College Application Deadlines between 10/15 - 12/15
All required SR/LOR to-do's and form must be completed by the time the student meets with their counselor by 9/19 for early admissions SR/LOR requests.
Deadline to submit SR/LOR for Regular Decision: 11/7
For College Application Deadlines after 12/15
All required SR/LOR to-do's and form must be completed by the time the student meets with their counselor by 11/7 for regular admissions SR/LOR requests.

As of July of 2022 per Assembly Bill 469, all SUHSD seniors are required to complete either a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) or a California Dream Act Application (CADAA). All SUHSD schools are required to account for every graduating senior prior to graduation. While there will be an opportunity to opt-out in the spring, we hope that you will choose to complete your financial aid application. If you have questions about this requirement, please connect with your school counselor.
FAFSA
A financial aid application that needs to be submitted in order to potentially receive federal and state financial aid for college. Priority Deadline is March 2nd.

California Dream Act Application
A financial aid application for California AB540 eligible students that needs to be submitted in order to potentially receive state financial aid. Priority Deadline is March 2nd (click here).
Cal Grant
The Cal Grant is a California-specific financial aid allocation that does not need to be paid back. Cal Grant applicants must apply using the FAFSA or CA Dream Act Application by the deadline (March 2nd) and meet all eligibility, financial, and minimum GPA requirements of either program. Grants are for students attending Universities of California, California State Universities or California Community Colleges, or qualifying independent and career colleges or technical schools in California. There are three kinds of Cal Grants — A, B, and C (click here).
During the 2025-26 school year, over 130 Sequoia students (10th-12th) are active participants in the BGCP- Future Grads program. They are currently recruiting 10th & 11th graders this fall 2025.
Future Grads staff have scheduled sessions with students on Sequoia's campus and at the Redwood City BGCP Clubhouse- "The Forest." It is a FREE college readiness program that supports students while in high school and through college graduation.

College Track was established in East Palo Alto, CA in 1997. There are 11 other College Track sites throughout the United States. It is a comprehensive, 10-year program designed to help first-generation and underserved students earn a bachelor's degree and launch meaningful careers by providing academic, college, and career support from high school through college graduation and beyond. These programs offer services like academic tutoring, college admissions and financial aid guidance, emergency funding, career development, and networking opportunities through an integrated support system.
College Track is currently recruiting 9th grader students this Fall 2025.

WACAC College Fairs
WACAC is pleased to host college fairs in California and Nevada for high school students, their parents, and high school counselors. All of WACAC’s fairs are FREE to attend and include FREE parking. In Fall 2025, WACAC welcomes representatives from more than 100 institutions at their events in South Bay/LA (Sept. 7), Reno (Oct. 19) and Las Vegas (Oct. 21).
Prior to attending a WACAC College Fair, students and parents should register using this special link to receive an event barcode.
Step 1: Fill out the registration form. You’ll get a reminder with your personal barcode two hours before the fair.
Step 2: At the fair, show your barcode to colleges. They’ll scan it to get your information.
The next day, you’ll get a report with information about all of the colleges that scanned your barcode. You’ll also start receiving information directly from the colleges about the application process, financial aid, and important deadlines.
