“Growing Together in the Same Pot”
by Dillon Lopes, Fall 2021
Simple enough as it is
We’re forced to grow in the same Pot.
So I ask why,
Why do we fertilize or soils
With the poisons of discriminitation
Only for the reason that one’s stem
Isn’t as thick or sturdy as their neighbor’s
Or that one takes more than a moment to blossom
Or that this one’s inferior
Since its petals are differently colored?
No sense is made or involved
With everyone’s hostile motives.
A batch of daisies might consider those
Scum or the Pot lilacs
Are the cause of the Pot’s latest crack.
Now the Lilacs don’t bother solving their Pot’s prob;lems
Only because those subordinate lessers
Believe in the wrong Watering Cans.
It’s incredibly crucial that the residents of the bouquet
Understand they’re Growing Together in the Same Pot.
