ELISE

Artist Statement

The poetry for my STARE portrait is about the Moon.  I’m a very creative person and with poetry I have lots of ideas in my mind and the only way to get it out is to put it on paper. I chose to share the poem you see as part of my Stare because it represents me well. My relationship with God is important to me and the moon is so bright, it makes me feel alive and strong.

The dome is part of a project I’ve created called the BEAUTY Project.  It held the space for me to give personalised Beauty readings to people with cards I had created of things I find beautiful.

The dome represents nature and me – it feels like home and my heart.

Artwork Description

The installation consists of a large hexagon frame shaped in a dome that surrounds the world of this work. On the floor is a circular woven mat and a single round cushion. There is a projection of a revolving moon onto a disc suspended above the dome and the viewer is invited to lie down on the floor and look up to the moon. There is a poem written on the inside of the dome frame which you are invited to read.

The poem reads:

The moon stay in the sky and the clouds passes by at night. When the moon move up like a balloon, it whispers my name. It is god up there, he always help me in my life and frustrations. I can sit on the floor couple of minutes prayer in stillness and peace in darkness.
