In my role as the Supervisor and Lab Manager at the UPenn Rapid Prototyping Laboratory (RPL) since September 2022, I have dedicated myself to enhancing the functionality and sustainability of this crucial makerspace. My focus is on streamlining processes and reducing material waste, leading to significant cost savings and improvements in our operational efficiency.
Key contributions and initiatives under my leadership include:
Streamlining Initiative for Material Waste Reduction: I spearheaded a project aimed at reducing material waste, which is projected to save 20% in costs for the third quarter. These savings are strategically earmarked for the acquisition of advanced machinery, further enhancing our lab's capabilities. See analysis graphs below.
Optimizing Laser Cutter and 3D Printer Efficiency: I have been instrumental in maximizing the efficiency, speed, and ease of use of our laser cutters and 3D printers. This optimization greatly benefits the Penn Research and Student community, facilitating smoother and more effective project executions.
Training and Support for Engineering Community: My role involves training and supporting the makerspace staff team, to ensure our clients from the School of Engineering, approximately 1000 users, can use the machines safely and efficiently. I provide them with design insights and guidance for optimal use of our equipment, thereby enriching our learning and research experiences.
Through these initiatives, I am committed to ensuring that the UPenn RPL remains a beacon of innovation and efficiency, empowering students and researchers to bring their visionary projects to life.
