Wai‘anae High School students achieve CTE Honors after completing a Program of Study and meeting the following requirements:
Cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher
Earn a B or better in each required program of study (coursework)
Proficiency on the Performance-Based Assessment (PBA)
At Wai‘anae High School, PBAs are an opportunity for students to showcase the skills and knowledge they’ve gained in their CTE Program of Study.
Each PBA includes:
Technical Writing – Documenting your project or work professionally
Oral Presentation – Explaining your project in a live presentation
Performance Assessment – A hands-on demonstration of your skills
The PBAs are conducted by Wai‘anae HS Level 3 and Level 4 CTE teachers, through a DOE-approved internship/work-based internship, or at the State-level CTSO competitions, and are required for CTE Honors recognition.
Although you only need two courses to be eligible, Wai‘anae HS offers the PBA in Level 3 or higher courses.
This extra time provides:
Opportunities to apply advanced skills
Deeper knowledge in your content area
A capstone project
Internship or work-based learning (WBL) opportunities
Early Option: Some Wai‘anae HS students may complete their PBA early by competing in the annual State CTSO competition or a DOE-approved internship/WBL opportunity, but our CTE department recommends completing it in Level 3 for the most thorough preparation and strongest project.
