New College Durham Supported Internships
Supported Internships offers young people aged 16-24 with an education health care plan (EHC) plan, the opportunity to gain practical work-based learning experience, providing a smooth transition from education to paid employment and further study.

What is Project SEARCH? Project SEARCH is a one-year supported internship programme for students with special educational needs. Students complete their internship in a real workplace with the support of a job coach and department mentor. Interns also attend daily classroom sessions that focus on employability and independent living skills. These sessions are delivered onsite at the host business. The programme helps young people to successfully transition into adult life and work towards full-time, paid employment.
Who is it for? Applicants should: Have a current Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP) Be 18 – 24 years old Have the desire and motivation to achieve paid employment Be able to travel independently or willing to learn independent travel skills
Future Focus is a full-time study programme available to young people ideally 18 to 24 years and working at minimum Entry Level two English and maths. Learners are supported and encouraged to make realistic choices about their future employment and living preferences, as they prepare for adulthood following the key themes of employment, independent living, good health, community inclusion and relationships.
We introduce our young people to the world of work encouraging them to gain volunteer experience and learn more about their skills and areas for development. We offer a variety of enrichment activities to improve communication skills and build learner confidence.
DurhamLearn's Supported Internships are available to young people with a current Education Health and Care Plan (EHCP), ideally 18 to 24 years and achieved a minimum Entry Level 2 maths and English (or equivalent).
Our Supported Internship main aim is to assist learners into sustainable, paid employment or volunteering. All Interns take part in work placements, whilst also engaging in English and maths studies at levels appropriate to them alongside any beneficial, vocationally relevant qualification that may help them to gain their desired employment.
Our Get Into 16+ programme will equip you with the confidence, mindset, and skills you need to succeed and move forward. Whether you are considering moving into an apprenticeship or getting a job, the programme is designed to help you to achieve your goals.

Durham SEND Information Advice and Support Service (SENDIASS) is a statutory service supporting parents/carers of children with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND) and children and young people with SEND.
We aim to empower parents/carers, children, and young people to play an active and informed role in making decisions about education, health, and social care.
Our role as an Information Advice and Support Service (IASS) is to help parents/carers, children and young people build their knowledge, and confidence in SEND law, procedures, policies, and practices, and to enable them to communicate with their own needs, wishes, and rights.
Durham SENDIASS is a free, impartial, and confidential service that operates at ‘arm’s length’ from the Local Authority (Durham County Council)
