To support a balanced environment, we provide three layers of safety and management for school-issued devices:
The District Filter (Always On): All school-issued Chromebooks are filtered 24/7 to block inappropriate content, regardless of whether the device is at school or on a home network.
GoGuardian Teacher (In-Class Management): During school hours, teachers may use this tool to keep students focused on the lesson at hand and redirect them away from non-educational distractions.
GoGuardian Parent (Optional Home Tool): This new app grants you the ability to set the specific boundaries that work for your household, such as blocking specific sites or pausing internet access on the device outside of school hours.
Key Features for Families
At-Home Filtering: Create your own "blocked" list for specific websites you don't want your child accessing during out-of-school hours.
Internet Pausing: Manually pause internet access or set a recurring "offline schedule" (e.g., during dinner or after bedtime) to support healthy screen-time habits.
Important Details
School Hours: During the school day, the district’s filtering and teacher management tools remain in effect. Parent-set filters only apply during designated "out-of-school" hours.
Device Scope: These features apply specifically to school-managed devices (like Chromebooks) or accounts; they do not monitor personal family devices.
1. Download: Search for "GoGuardian Parent" in the Apple App Store or Google Play Store.
2. Register: Open the app and enter the email address registered with the school in Aeries. (If you are unsure which email is on file, please contact your school office.)
Note: If you forgot your registered email address, please reach out to your school.
3. Verify: Check your email on your phone for a link to log in to the app. Tap the "Verify your email" to be logged in automatically.
Note: If you cannot access your email on that specific device, select "Login with verification code" in the app and manually paste the code from your email.
4. Explore: Navigate the "Summary" and "Filters" tabs to view activity and begin managing your student’s device settings.
The summary section provides an at-a-glance, easy to digest overview of what your student has been doing. First, you must choose the student you'd like to view, and the timeframe for the information that you'd like to gather.

The Filters section will allow you to block websites that you do not want your student to reach. It is important to remember that your students will still be blocked by the school's filtering policies during out of school hours. This means that it is likely they'll already be blocked from inappropriate sites. Additionally, the GoGuardian Parent App will not enable a Guardian to allow a site which is blocked by the school.
Simply click Add Website to begin adding a site you wish to block.
The Time Limits section allows for immediate Pausing and Resuming of internet to your student. You can pause for various increments of time, from 15 minutes to the rest of the day. You can resume at any time.
You may also set a schedule for when the internet will be off for your student. The bottom of the Time Limits section will have an option to Add Schedule.
The Activity tab includes raw history logs, which may be misleading about what technology is actively being used by students on the device.
Examples:
Students watch an educational video (YouTube) prior to engaging in a small-group discussion with peers, but the video tab remains open on the student's device for the duration of the class or day.
A student keeps a tab with Google Classroom open throughout the day to be able to reference assignment directions and due dates.
A student visits the digital wellness room and visits chess.com during lunch in the Learning Commons and never closes the tab.
The "Top 5" provides a high-level overview of your students’ activity on the device.
The Parent App is a window into device activity, but it doesn't tell the whole story. If you have questions or concerns about the information you see, please reach out directly to your student’s school. School staff can provide the necessary context regarding specific assignments or classroom expectations.
To ensure students can access all necessary learning materials during the school day, parental controls are active outside of school hours. School hours are designated as Monday through Friday from 7:30 am to 4:00 pm. You will have full access to manage your student's device access on evenings and weekends.
Digital interventions, such as closing a browser tab, represent only a small fraction of classroom management. Teachers often redirect students in person or use proactive settings to prevent distractions before they occur. Because automated logs provide an incomplete picture of the school day and how we continue to support intentional and safe use of technology for all students, we have disabled this feature to avoid confusion. Any significant behavioral concerns will continue to be shared directly through standard school communication channels. We continue to invite parents to communicate directly with administrators and teachers if you have any concerns about your students' use of technology during the school day.
