Culinary Arts 1
Cooking essentials for the future culinary professional will be presented in this unique program offered by Torrey Pines Culinary Arts. The student will explore the world of fine foods, culinary techniques and restaurant services. The course will include a major hands-on component as students will be planning, preparing, and serving a variety of food items throughout the year.
Students entering Culinary Arts 1 are expected to have an interest in cooking, a strong work ethic and the desire to improve their understanding of the culinary field. Students are not required to know any culinary skills, just a desire to learn them.
Goals
To teach students basic concepts in food preparation, food safety, nutrition, workplace skills, and related culinary concepts.
For students to practice hands-on skills, follow written and verbal directions, and maintain a safe, sanitary work environment while they plan, prepare, cook, and enjoy a variety of dishes while working as a team with their classmates.
To teach students career and technical skills that they can use and build upon for years to come in their personal lives, the community and the workplace.
This course fulfills Practical Arts credit in the CSU & UC systems.
