NCAA FAQS

When should students register?

The NCAA recommends that student-athletes register at eligibilitycenter.org at the beginning of their junior year in high school, but many students register after their junior year. There is no registration deadline, but students must be cleared by the Eligibility Center before they receive athletic scholarships or compete at Division I or II institutions. Incoming freshman and undecided student-athletes may want to register for a free Profile Page account. These accounts can be transferred to a paid Certification account at any time. Profile Page account registrants also get an NCAA ID and important reminders from the EC as they progress through high school.

Any student planning to compete at an NCAA Division I or II school needs to create a Certification account before taking an official visit or signing a National Letter of Intent. Click here to learn which account is right for your student-athlete.

Can students have the registration fee waived?

Students who have received a waiver for the SAT or ACT are eligible for a waiver of the registration fee. The student's counselor must submit confirmation of the student's test fee waiver. Go to the NCAA Eligibility Center High School Portal for more information.

What records does the Eligibility Center require?

Students should arrange to have their high school transcript sent through Parchment as soon as they have completed at least six semesters of high school.

Does the Eligibility Center require SAT/ACT scores?

In January 2023, the NCAA permanently removed a requirement to earn a qualifying SAT or ACT score for all first year-Division I and II student-athletes who initially enroll full time on or after August 1, 2023. Students should still check with the NCAA school they plan to attend regarding whether standardized test scores are necessary for admission or scholarship requirements. Go to the NCAA Eligibility Center High School Portal for more information.

Students are responsible for sending in their final transcripts and proof of graduation at the end of their senior year. Students will follow the same instructions as if they were sending their final transcripts to their college. This information is provided in May of their senior year.
