Although those impacts are not easy to notice as they used to be in the past, they are still existing in different criteria of indigenous community. For example, in our school system here in the US, the stuff that were learned or being taught are sometime involved with concepts that connect to colonization, such as colonized concepts of gender and sexuality.
Indigenous women and Two-Spirit people are still resisting colonization even today. Although more people had noticed the resistance that has been done by Indigenous community to against colonization, there are still a lot that indigenous community needs to do.
One of the most critical concept of colonization is taking over resources from it originally belongs to. Indigenous organizations always try to everything they could to resist those modern colonization, and Indigenous women are also one of the most important part of the resistance. In the article "Indigenous Women on the Ongoing Fight Against Colonialism and Capitalism," it interviewed two activists that are part of the resistance. Throughout their interview with the reporter, they pointed out that the importance of their activity and how important Indigenous women is in those activity. (Lyons)
Decolonization means undoing of colonialism, and removing all the works that were done during the European's colonization. According to Dr. Cutcha Risling Baldy, decolonization also means giving lands back to the indigenous people in order to decolonize the colonization of the Americas. (Baldy) She believes decolonization is a process of land return, as those resources were originally belongs to indigenous people. To doing that, there may be a lot of works need to be done by the government. But consider who those lands are belong to, it is necessary to do the process of decolonization. Although it may be very tough to do, we need to respect those who those lands are really belong to. Try our best to give back those lands that were originally belongs to them.
