TUTORING WITHIN THE RESIDENTIAL STAR CENTERS
WHAT IS A STAR CENTER ASSISTANT PROGRAM?
The STAR Center Assistant (SCA) program is designed to assist first and second-year residential students to successfully transition to San Diego State University.

FIRST-YEAR COMMUNITIES
Monday - Thursday:
1:00 PM - 10:00 PM
Sunday:
4:00 PM - 10:00 PM
SECOND-YEAR COMMUNITIES / TRAVELING STAR CENTERS
Monday - Thursday:
2:00 - 7:00 PM
Compensation:
$16.50/hr
**rates may change on a semester basis.
This position requires a minimum of 6 hours per week and a maximum of 20 hours per week.
WHAT IS A STAR CENTER TUTOR?
STAR Center Tutors are San Diego State University currently enrolled students with sophomore standing and above who offer tutoring services in the Residential Education Office STAR centers. The STAR centers are academic resources labs in the residence halls that provide academic advising and tutoring for residential students. All Tutors must maintain a 3.5 SDSU GPA or above and must have passed the courses they will tutor with a Grade of A. Tutors will be compensated $16.50/hr and will work shifts in various STAR centers in all residential areas. Tutors can work between 6 and 20 hours per week. If a tutor has another job on-campus, they can only work 20 hours total for all on-campus positions
Duties:
Conduct individual tutoring sessions with residents based on subject needs
Assess the needs of individual students and refer to resources as necessary
Attend regular team meetings with supervisor and other tutors
Maintain open communication with your supervisor. Report any concerning behaviors from students to provide applicable resources
Act as a positive and professional role model for students
Attend all professional development involvements and training
Other duties as assigned
Qualifications:
Before we start you on your journey for success, we have a few requirements for the job:
Complete online training via assigned Canvas modules
Attend In Person training during the first week of FA 23 classes (Date TBD)
Ongoing training to be completed throughout the year
Minimum of 6 hours a week of work
Minimum SDSU GPA of 3.5
Must be a current San Diego State University student (Second-year or older)
Must be in good academic and judicial standing with San Diego State University
Interest in tutoring and helping students of varying ages and backgrounds
Patient and positive demeanor as tutors will be working with students of varying knowledge regarding the university and education system
Demonstrated commitment to leadership and University involvement
Commitment to academic success and excellence
