Email & Classroom Website
I maintain this website for the class. In addition, we will be using Google Classroom as well. You should bookmark this site in all of your devices.
I can be reached by email at Tom_Vizza@sdst.org. I prefer to be reached by email.
Expectations & Classroom Procedures
All materials for the class are hole-punched. They are expected to be kept in chronological order or reverse chronological order.
Please be seated with your homework on your desk when class begins. Complete any assigned bell work while I tend to late hw issues.
As per school policy, you are required to have a Ti83/84 series graphing calculator.
Do not throw out any graded assignments. If there is a discrepancy between your records and mine, you need to produce any graded assignments to resolve it.
Please refrain from using my dedicated computer or the SMART Board without permission.
Please refrain from using the classroom phone or your cell phone or earbud in class without permission. This is your only warning. I will email home if you violate this policy. You are welcome to park your phone in the phone caddy in the start of class if you struggle staying off your phone.
Please do not access your Chromebook without direction or permission. It should be off your desk and on the floor when we are not using it. The cover should be on it always as per school policy. When we do make use of it, you are to have all tabs other than the ones I require closed.
Homework
Homework will be assigned almost every night.
Homework Assignments are on Google Classroom. What is written there is the final say of homework assignments and I will refer to it adjudicate any discrepancies that arise based on what is written there.
Write your name, date, homework assignment number and assignment description on each homework assignment.
All work involving graphing is to be done on graph paper unless otherwise specified.
Homework can fall into 3 subcategories: unchecked, checked, and scored for accuracy.
Unchecked Homework
Homework that is expected to be completed but does not directly impact your grade due to the fact that is unscored. I will make a note of the fact if you have done it or not. These scores will be kept in the observation category. That category has no weight in my grade book. These assignments are not optional. They are just not scored toward your grade.
Checked Homework
Zero points are given for unsatisfactory or incomplete homework.
One point is awarded for mostly completed homework.
Two points are awarded for satisfactorily completed homework.
Homework that is awarded zero or one point can be completed per the lateness schedule below.
Score for Accuracy
Varying points will be awarded for homework that is checked for accuracy.
I will often pick a random number of problems and grade them for accuracy when I collect homework.
Lateness on homework policy. - Please note that all late work must be handed in physically. Late work will not be submitted in google classroom. It will be graded according to the following schedule. IT IS A GREAT IDEA TO TAKE A PICTURE OF YOUR LATE SUBMITTED HOMEWORK AND HKEEP A RECORD OF IT IN CLASS IT IS LOST AFTER IT BEING HANDED IN. IT HAVING A TIME STAMP FROM YOUR PHONE/CHROMEBOOK IS ALSO A HELP TO HAVE FOR REFERENCE.
up to 24 hours late - you earned points are multiplied by 90%
24 to 48 hours late - you earned points are multiplied by 80%
48 to 72 hours late - you earned points are multiplied by 70%
Beyond 72 hours - Students may turn in homework for 50% credit prior to the unit assessment. After the assessment, no credit will be given.
Lateness to Class
When the bell rings, I shut the door. Without a pass you are marked late if you arrive after the bell. You need to bring a legitimate pass to be excused from lateness otherwise. Three instances of lateness can result in a teacher detention. Additional instances will be referred to the administration if needed.
Grading Policies
Points will be accumulated through a series of homework, tests and quizzes.
Your marking period grade will be determined by the following formula.
Tests - 50%
Quizzes - 15%
Assignments - 35%
After being rounded to the nearest whole number, your numeric average for each of the marking periods and the year will be converted to a letter grade in the following manner
End of Marking Period Grades
90-100 → A
87-89→B+
80-86→B
77-79→C+
70-76→C
65-69→D
Less than 65→F
· Your final grade for the course will be computed by the following formula.
40% of MP1(or3) Grade + 40% of MP2(or4) Grade + 8% of Midterm + 12% of Final Exam = Final Grade
Tests and Quizzes
Tests will be announced in advance.
Quizzes might not be announced in advance.
If you miss a quiz/test review due to absence and return for the day of the quiz/test, you will be given any missed review materials. You must make the test up at your next study hall, available lunch, before or after school within a two day period of your return to school. You must email me a google calendar appointment request within 24 hours of your return to school. Extended absences will be given consideration for extensions beyond this on a case by case basis.
Extra Credit
Extra credit may be offered at the discretion of the instructor and is rare at that. Extra credit is not offered to students who have not completed the regular credit work to the teacher’s satisfaction.
