Salvadoran Spirit by Sofia Flores-Aleman
My design is inspired by Salvadoran culture, which is very important to me because I am proud to be part of the Salvadoran community here in Springdale. I wanted my artwork to celebrate not just my heritage, but also the strong Salvadoran presence that has become such an important part of our city.
One of the biggest celebrations in our culture is Independence Day, on September 15th. Even here in Springdale, many Salvadoran families take time to celebrate with food, and music that remind us of home and the freedom our country earned. These traditions help keep our culture alive and connect us to one another.
In my design, I included the Salvadoran flag because it’s a powerful symbol of who we are.. The blue and white colors represent the Pacific Ocean along El Salvador’s west coast and the peace and unity that connect Salvadorans—both in our home country and here in Arkansas.
With this artwork, I want to show how proud I am of my Salvadoran roots and honor the families who have brought their culture, values, and traditions to Springdale. This piece celebrates not just my story, but the story of the Salvadoran community that helps make Springdale such a vibrant and diverse place to live.
