Colors of the Mexican Spirit by Isabella Velazquez-Landeros
My design honors the Mexican community in Springdale and celebrates its beauty, traditions, and vibrant spirit. One important tradition that inspired my work is El Día de los Muertos (The Day of the Dead), a holiday that honors and remembers loved ones who have passed away. The skull symbols in my artwork represent this celebration, reminding us that death is not something to fear but a way to cherish the lives and memories of those we love.
I chose bright, lively colors to reflect the energy and joy found in Mexican culture, similar to the vivid designs of sugar skulls. Through my artwork, I want people to feel safe, joyful, and welcomed by the Mexican community, and to experience the warmth and beauty that fill our hearts with color and life.
