Pride of Sonora by Abigail Ebey
My design celebrates Sonora Middle School’s proud history and the strong sense of community that defines it. Through my interview with Dr. Shawna Lyons, the first principal of the school, I learned how our Spartan mascot was chosen—a process full of thought, creativity, and pride in finding the perfect symbol to represent who we are. I chose to feature the Spartan because it stands for the courage, strength, and unity I see every day at Sonora.
To me, Sonora Middle School isn’t just a place to learn—it’s a second home where I’m encouraged to grow, explore my passions, and challenge myself. Our mission reminds us that Sonora is a safe place for all to rise to their potential and learn at high levels. I used our bold school colors, red and blue, to capture that spirit of energy, pride, and belonging.
When I think of Sonora, the image of the Spartan always comes to mind. Through my artwork, I hope others can feel that same sense of pride and see Sonora Middle School as the welcoming and inspiring place it truly is.
