Farm to Fortune by Jaycie Newman
My design is inspired by Tyson Foods, the largest company in Springdale, Arkansas. The poultry industry started here back in the 1920s when farmers were looking for new ways to make money after their crops failed. People like Jeff Brown, C.L. George, and John Tyson helped start it all. John Tyson began with just one truck, delivering chickens to markets, and later built Tyson Foods, which became one of the largest food companies in the world.
For a while, Springdale was even called “Chickendale” because there were so many chicken companies here. The poultry industry helped our town grow and gave many families jobs and opportunities.
I based my design on the Tyson Hatchery sign on Emma Avenue because it’s an important part of Springdale’s history. I used the colors from the Tyson logo to represent the company’s identity and to make my artwork stand out. Through my design, I want people to think about how much Tyson Foods has shaped our community and how it continues to be a big part of Springdale’s story today.
