Digital Literacy:

Online Safety and Citizenship

Many Cordova Bay students are spending more time than ever on screens. Sometimes, an adult might not be able to watch over you closely to make sure you are making safe choices online.

Here are a few stories, games and videos to help you learn about keeping yourself and others safe online.

Background Information for Parents:

Digital Literacy is "the interest, attitude and ability of individuals to use digital technology and communication tools appropriately to access, manage, integrate, analyze and evaluate information, construct new knowledge, and create and communicate with others" (Province of BC, 2020). To teach this important skill to our students, the Ministry of Education has created the Digital Literacy Framework (Province of BC, 2019), which provides a structured, age-appropriate approach to teaching children about Digital Literacy and Online Citizenship. The Saanich School District has gone further and broken down the Digital Literacy Framework into three components for teaching: Respect, Educate, and Protect. The activities and resources on this website have been sourced and approved by the Saanich School District to be in alignment with the Digital Literacy Framework. Questions or comments?
