Bunnies: The Tale of Peter Rabbit

Happy Easter, everyone! Let's read The Tale of Peter Rabbit, a story about a famous little bunny who learned that he should listen to his mother rabbit. Then try some of the activities below!

Craft: Finger-knit a Bunny - find some chunky yarn and give it a try! Younger students can do this with help.

Science: Which kind of soil grows the best? Inspired by Mr. MacGregor's garden, try this science experiment to see what type of soil works best to grow a seed.

Mapmaking: Draw a map of Mr. MacGregor's garden. Label the different areas with your best guess spelling. Can you make a paper rabbit? Act out Peter's steps while you listen to the story.

In the Kitchen: Make Lettuce Wraps, a healthy snack worthy of Peter and his bunny brothers and sisters!

Movement Activity: Cosmic Kids Yoga - Peter Cottontail and the Tickly Monkeys

LEGO: Can you build a vegetable garden? Can you make the characters from the story? Use what pieces you have and be creative!

In the Neighbourhood: Go for a walk and look for different kinds of fruits and vegetables that are growing in your neighbourhood gardens. Do you see evidence of rabbits, deer, and raccoons that try to eat from gardens? What do the gardeners on your street do to protect their gardens from hungry creatures? How would you do it?

Research: Visit the Cordova Bay Learning Commons website. Click on one of the World Book links for your Grade (username: 63cor, password: library). Search RABBIT and read or listen to the information. Write down 5 – 10 WOW facts using your best guess spelling, and then tell someone what you learned.

I hope you have fun with The Tale of Peter Rabbit! You can send pictures or letters to jbales@saanichschools.ca and I will write back.

"Hoppy" Easter every "bunny!"
