Inclusive CLE/CLC Program

In order to best support our students with diverse needs through the transition to adulthood, this adapted program will serve as a guideline for teachers to meet the goals of their IEPs. Where possible, depending on individual need, students will complete the CLE program, though assignments may be adjusted to suit individual needs where applicable at the discretion of teachers, Case Managers, EAs and others who may be involved. Format of assignments may vary, but should function as a portfolio (most students will create a website to fulfill their CLE/CLC requirements) to support the capstone in grade 12.

Grade 10 Assignment Checklist

Unit One: Personal Exploration -

Students will complete these assignments parallel to the Dogwood program:

• Complete PATH (fall of Grade 10 year). Students will complete their PATH with the help of EAs and their Resource Teacher. Upload picture of completed PATH.
• Personal Home Page – Students will create a homepage that profiles their interests and abilities. See Career Path page for assignment.
• Happiness/Success Reflection: Answer the questions below. Format may be written or oral – filmed interviews may be posted to portfolios.
  • What are the things that make you happy right now?
  • How do you know if you’ve done a good job? -eg. In canteen
• Learning Needs - upload IEP video students create for teachers
• Complete a Myers-Briggs test – We will use an alternative version to the one found in MyBlueprint (see link: http://mycareerproject.org/test/personality-test/
  • Reflection - what kind of job is a good fit for your personality type?

Unit Two: Job Hunt

• Resume - Uploaded in a format that can be updated (e.g. not a pdf); may use pre-existing resume if up to date
• Cover Letter - Use a template and use three- paragraph letter structure
• What is a mentor? (pick Mentorship qualities from a list - to be uploaded here shortly)
  • Identify who the mentors are in their lives (revisit in grade 11 for community connections)

Unit Three: Workplace Safety

• Alive After 5 reflection - iAttend the Alive After 5 session in the fall. Identify what you learned (use unsafe worksite photos as prompts)
• Participate in all discussions and classroom activities

Grade 11 Assignment Checklist

Unit One: Career Path

• Revisit PATH goals and identify next steps.

Unit Two: Job Hunt

• Mentor assignment – Using grade 10 mentorship assignment, choose a mentor from the list of community mentors. Generate questions about day-to-day work environment and interview a mentor with support. Record and upload interviews.
• Mock Job Interviews - find 3-5 job interviews (including one harder question!) and practice answering them with EA support. When ready, film an example of a good job interview
• Work Experience – Students will participate in Cafeteria, Snack Shack, Beany Business, or Service Learning opportunities.

Unit Three: Workplace Safety

• Students will attend and participate in all activities. Assignments will be completed with other students in inclusive groups.
• Workplace safety PSA - (Students will complete this assignment in inclusive groups)

Unit Four: Digital Footprint – Safety on the Internet.

• Common Sense Media Curriculum – Public vs. Private Information – Use video to promote class discussion as entry point for all. https://youtu.be/MjPpG2e71Ec
  • Students should categorize information (create a list!!!) as either public or private information, OR Generate the information sites/media/games will seek. Categorize the information and explain risks of sharing information.
• Fun and Friendly Gaming – See Common Sense You Tube Channel. Who is the other person online? How do we keep ourselves and our information safe while gaming? Reinforce this with posters (Will upload poster pack here...).
• Create a ppt to share with Learning Centre Students. Is there a possibility of them working with another student on this so it’s more inclusive? ppt should outline public/private information OR outline key safety points

Unit Five: World of Work –

• Students will connect with Job shadowing opportunities, visit the Painted Chair - Nicky to make contacts – Individualized semester-by-semester, based on student's Identified interests,
• Okanagan College trip – coordinate with Rod/Andrew - what services are available, who are their contacts?

Unit Six: Finances

• Budgeting - (see modified assignment to be posted here when complete)
• Participate in class activities and discussions where appropriate

Grade 12

• Outside supports: Who can support us after school? Which agencies/placements are available, e.g. STADS – navigator (family support for transitions), Painted Chair
• Final Portfolio (Stacey?) - Celebration of learning is a good place to present portfolio.
