Data Dashboards and Data Sets

District and School data are displayed through both a Data Dashboard and Data Sets, each having a distinct purpose.

The Data Dashboard contains student learning results that are indirectly related to our goals. The Data Dashboard functions in a similar way to how a vehicle's dashboard allows the driver to monitor critical systems that will make it possible to arrive at your destination, such as fuel, engine monitoring, tires, etc. As a learning example, if a school goal is in the area of critical thinking, dashboard data may include student surveys on social emotional well being, or engagement in their learning as this indirectly contributes to a student's ability to develop as a critical thinker.

The Data Set contains student learning results that are directly related to student learning in relation to the goal statement. From our previous example of a vehicle's goal of arriving at a certain destination, a data set would indicate whether or not we arrived at the correct location, how many kilometers left to travel, did we arrive or did we miss the turn, etc. As a learning example with the same learning goal as above, a data set would most likely include direct evidence of student learning associated with the competency of critical thinking such as a student's ability to use criteria to make a decision, item level FSA data that indicate higher level thinking, or a student survey item directly related to critical thinking.

Both the School District and School level plans will include both a data dashboard and data sets.

Provincial Framework for Enhancing Student Learning (FESL)

Both our data dashboard and data sets contain data that specifically align with the FESL Reporting Order. These required provincial data points are well aligned with our SD48 Assessment Plan. Required FESL data points are labeled as FESL. The FESL framework for reporting includes three categories:

  • Intellectual Development

  • Human and Social Development

  • Career Development
